Abstract
Objective: This experimental study was designed to investigate the effect of SBY-¥² extract on the body weight, plasma, UCP mRNA in obese rats.

Methods: The body weight gain, weight of the internal organs(epididymis, liver, adipose tissue), insulin, triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, total lipid, free fatty acid, expression of UCP mRNA were measured in obese rats administered SBY-¥² extract for 8 weeks. These were then compared with those of control groups administered physiological saline.

Results: 1. In the sample group, the body weight decrease occurred significantly than that of control group(p<0.001). 2. In the sample group, epididymal fat weight showed significantly decrease than that of control group(P<0.05). 3. In the sample group, fat accumulation in liver showed significantly decrease than that of control group(P<0.001). 4. In the sample group, triglyceride, total cholesterol, total lipid, free fatty acid showed significantly decrease than that of control group(P<0.05, P<0.01). 5. In the sample group, UCP1 mRNA in BAT significantly decrease than that of control group(P<0.05).

Conclusions: These results shows that SBY-¥² has effects on the management of obesity.
